Terracotta gladiator figurine, unknown Southern Italian workshop, terracotta, male figurines. Figure of a gladiator ready for battle on a high base. Legs wide apart, left leg bent, right leg straight. On the calves are greaves reaching above the knees. In his right, bent hand he holds a dagger, and in the other a four-sided shield. He is dressed in a short draped tunic and wears a helmet. The Latin inscription PACILI is visible on the reverse of the base. Preservation condition: part of the base filled with plaster, partial shield and back of the head broken off, reflections, cracks. Date: 2nd–1st century BC, Southern Italy. Figurine; height 13 cm, width 7 cm., A small sculpted figure made of a pale beige material stands against a solid gray background. The figure appears to wear a hat and has a simplified, abstracted form with a rounded head, a narrow torso, and elongated limbs. A curved element projects from the figure's back like a flattened, hollowed shape. The surface shows rough texture, weathered patches, and variations in beige and light tan tones with some subtle darker grayish spots. The base is irregular and shares the same pale beige color, and the figure is reflected faintly on the glossy surface beneath it.
