Red-figure bowl kylix, 3rd quarter of the 4th century BC, Apulia. Yellow clay tending to red with glossy black engobe; some elements painted white. Bowl with ring-shaped base with two vices attached to the rim horizontally; palmettes beneath the vices. Belly decorated with two scenes: Scene A: young woman semi-reclining on the ground, facing left, holding a wreath in her left hand and a woven basket on her outstretched right hand; wearing a long, smooth chiton, pearl necklace, double bracelets, hair tied in a bun with a kekryphalos. Scene B: Eros flying, facing left; in right hand a musical instrument and in left hand a wreath with a ribbon; hairstyle and jewelry like Scene A bun with kekryphalos, double bracelets, pearl necklace, ankles adorned with bracelets, head with a diadem; entire figure shows hermaphrodite features. Function: vessel kylix. Condition: numerous chips, engobe dull in places. Dimensions: height 5.1 cm, width 17.5 cm, depth 10 cm. Tags/subjects: red-figure pottery, bowls, Eros, music/musical instruments, seated women, wreath iconography., A worn ceramic bowl with a rounded body and flared foot, painted predominantly black with areas of reddish-brown clay showing through; the black surface is decorated with a few stylized floral and leaf motifs in a terracotta color and pale beige, featuring curved petal and scroll shapes; there are small sections of chipped and abraded surface revealing lighter clay beneath, and a glossy black rim and base band; the background is a smooth neutral gray.
