Fragment of a lydion. Archaic period. Fragmentarily preserved lydion foot and lower part of the body. The foot is flat, disc-shaped, conically recessed at the bottom in the middle. The medium-high, cylindrical foot tapers slightly towards the bowl. The preserved part of the bowl is hemispherical. The top of the foot, the foot, and the upper parts of the bowl are covered with a glossy varnish; the remaining parts are clay-colored. The outer surface of the bowl is decorated with four horizontally arranged thin lines in light brown. The interior of the bowl is not smoothed, with visible traces of turning. The outer part of the foot is covered with matte varnish. Varnish color 10 YR 2/1 black. Ornament color 2.5 YR 4/3 reddish brown; 2.5 YR 4/6 red. Color of clay 5 YR 6/6 reddish yellow. Dated on stylistic analogy to the 2nd half of the 6th century BC mid–late 6th century BC; analogies suggest c. 550–525 BC. Probable origin: Asia Minor Lydia or nearby eastern Greek regions. Type: vessel, lydion. Height 7 cm; width 7.7 cm; weight 0.132 kg., A round shallow bowl viewed from above resting on a flat background, with visible concentric turning marks and a slightly raised rim; the bowl surface shows an earthy reddish-brown terracotta tone with subtle variations and darker specks, and the background is a uniform light gray.
