Quadripartite icon: four images of the Mother of God, Russian workshop. The central part of the icon is divided into four parts showing images of the Mother of God with the youthful Christ. These are: 1 Our Lady of Czestochowa The Crucifixion of Evil Hearts; 2 Quiet My Sorrows; 3 Deliverance from Serious Misfortunes; 4 The Escape of the Wandering. The individual images are linear and schematic; in a rather poor color range. The inscriptions are made in black paint. In the corners of the frame there are decorative plaques with a star motif. 1st half of the 19th century, Russia; icon; height 39.0 cm, width 33.0 cm., The image shows a rectangular painted panel divided into four framed scenes arranged in a grid, each scene depicting a female figure with a child; the panel has a reddish-brown border with metallic corner pieces and a background of worn gold and brown tones. In the top left scene a crowned woman holds a child while a dark curved shape spans the lower part of the frame; the figures wear muted reds, browns, and golds with dark outlines. The top right scene shows a woman in a red cloak holding a child who is dressed in darker and lighter fabrics, with halos around their heads and a background of burnished gold. The bottom left scene features a crowned woman in a red and black garment cradling a child in red, set against a textured gold background. The bottom right scene depicts a woman in a red cloak and dark robe holding a smaller figure in light-colored clothing, all rendered in shades of red, black, gold, and brown with fine dark line work.
