The icon's form is linear and flat, with dark colors predominating—shades of brown, muted purple, and vermilion brightened with yellow. The faces are treated schematically; in the Consolation... scene there is a tendency toward synthesis and simplification: the scene is limited to the Mother of God in the center, standing with her arms outstretched, and four figures of the poor/suffering approaching Mary led by angels. No clasps. 19th century, Russia. Height 40.0 cm; width 33.8 cm., A painted religious image showing a seated adult figure holding a child figure against a dark brown background, both figures framed by circular golden halos; the adult wears a deep red garment with darker red folds and gold accents and has a solemn facial expression while the child wears a lighter red to orange robe with visible folds and bare feet; a small scene in the upper corner depicts a group of figures in muted browns and golds; the overall palette includes dark brown, deep red, lighter red to orange, gold, and hints of black.
