Icon: St. Nicholas. Russian workshop. Nicholas of Myra St.; ca. 270–345/352. Icon depicting saints; swords, weapons; bishops; Mandylion iconography; inscriptions; cities. The icon shows Saint Nicholas holding a sword in his right hand and a model of a city in his left. Proportions appear foreshortened; the relief has a clearly archaizing character. Background is cut out. Frame features a floral pattern, with a small plaque bearing an image of the Mandylion on the axis. 2nd half of the 18th–19th century, Russia. Icon; height 7.5 cm, width 5.8 cm., A square metal object with a small rectangular tab at the top, shown against a light gray background, appears weathered with rough, uneven edges and several irregular cutouts in its interior; the metal surface is primarily dark gray with areas of lighter gray and subtle brownish spots, and the cutouts reveal the background color through them.
