Head of a woman. Female head, fragment of a larger figurine. The head is tilted slightly to the right. The face is narrow, long. The straight nose forms a single plane with the forehead. Large, almond-shaped eyes are deeply set; near the nose, both eyelids are modeled. Eyebrow arches slope downward at the outside. Forehead triangular. Hair completely covers the ears, revealing only the earrings. Hair parted in the middle, forms waves at the back and is combed upwards, creating curls on the crown. Hair held in a wide ribbon that runs from the back to the front, crosses back and is tied. Polychrome perfectly preserved: face white with strong pink, traces of red on the lips; hair brown; scarf white and blue. 4th century BC, Tanagra Greece. Terracotta figurine. Height 13 cm, width 7 cm, depth 9.5 cm, weight 0.31 kg., A carved head sculpture shown against a plain light gray background, with a weathered face painted in pale off-white and gray tones and patches of darker discoloration, framed by wavy textured hair in reddish-brown and terracotta hues. The hair is gathered and topped with a decorative band that shows traces of silvery paint and a group of sculpted curls in reddish-brown. A small earring with a muted yellow color is visible on one side. The neck and base of the sculpture show similar pale off-white coloring with areas of wear and exposed reddish-brown material.
