Red-figure guttus, Greece, Attica, 5th century BC c. 425–375 BC. Vessel guttus, height 5.7 cm, width 9.8 cm. Shallow, low cylindrical neck with rim turned outward; rim formed by the plastically modeled muzzle of a lion. Shoulders decorated with a lion and panthers; animals semi-reclining with curled tails, facing left; formed mane and muzzle. Instead of a spout, a strainer is visible at the top; 3 cm wide. Reserved area between the main decorative band and the strainer. Technology: visible turning marks. Varnish matte, dense, good quality; clay purified with a small amount of mica. Surface contaminated. Clay color 2.5 YR 5/6 red; varnish color 10 YR 2/1 black., A round ceramic vessel shown from above with a looped handle at the top and a protruding spout shaped like an animal head on the right, decorated with painted animal figures and patterns. The surface shows a mix of reddish-brown and black colors, with lighter tan highlights on the animal head and decorative lines. The central recessed area has a circular perforated section with the same reddish-brown tone, and the handle appears darker, almost black, with faint wear marks. The background is a plain neutral gray.
