Photographic print: height 12.1 cm, width 20.6 cm; cardboard: height 35.3 cm, width 25.4 cm., The image shows a wide, muted scene with a large stone fortress or castle stretching across a raised hillside beside a body of water; the fortress has a few tall towers and long curtain walls in shades of gray and brown, with the hillside beneath it covered in darker greenish-gray vegetation. In front of the hill, there is a riverside area with several small buildings and houses in pale gray and off-white tones, and a few trees with darker green-gray foliage. On the water there are a couple of small boats, one with a person seated and another with a person standing, rendered in dark gray silhouettes, and the water reflects pale gray and brown tones from the sky and shoreline. The overall palette is subdued, dominated by grays, browns, and muted greens.
