Portrait of a woman in a stylised Krakus cap. Miniature portrait en trois-quarts, bust 3/4 right, ash-grey hair; on the head a scarf with blue, white and red stripes tied in the form of a rogatywka; at the bodice a white scarf with blue stripes; brown dress. Background: thicket, trees and sky with dark clouds. Frame: a circular rim of gilded bronze in a circular recess in a square wooden frame polished to ebony. The portrait may be an allusion to the Kosciuszko Uprising; peasant women wore scarves on their heads, and brown was particularly associated with the Third Estate. Attributed to unknown artist; ca. 1830. Miniature, height 6.4 cm, width 6.5 cm., A round portrait set in a circular gold frame mounted on a square black wooden plaque shows a person with light skin and light-colored hair wearing a patterned red and blue head covering and a brown garment with a white collar; the background contains foliage in green and blue tones against a grayish sky, and the frame and plaque display black, gold, brown, red, blue, green, white, and gray colors.
