Almost full bust, head three-quarters left; powdered hair tied with a black ribbon; white cravat; ribbon of the Order of St. Alexander Nevsky; blue tailcoat with red lapels and gold trim. Background grey. Frame: black passe-partout, recessed rim, pearling all around, gilded bronze, convex glass frame does not match miniature in size. Inscription on reverse of frame: Portrait / Panina / in Russian uniform / r. 1789., An oval framed miniature portrait shows a person with pale skin and powdered white hair styled in waves, wearing a blue garment and a red scarf or collar, set against a muted blue background; the miniature is surrounded by an inner dark rim and a decorative outer frame that is gold in color with a beaded inner edge and a small metal loop at the top, all shown on a plain gray backdrop.
