Joseph Heigel studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, later worked in Paris and exhibited at the Salons from 1817 to 1837., A painted portrait of a man shown from the chest up within a round decorative frame, featuring a pale blue sky background and distant green hills and trees. The man has light skin, brown wavy hair, and a neutral expression. He wears a dark coat with a high collar and a patterned scarf in shades of yellow and cream around his neck.
