Depicts boys, rulers, soldiers in uniforms and orders; male portrait with landscape and sky background. Dated 1834. Associated with Hessen and bei Rhein, Ernst Ludwig Grossherzog; 1868–1937 provenance/repossessions noted. Origin: Russia., A painted oval portrait set in an ornate rectangular gold frame shows a young person with fair skin and short brown hair wearing a dark military uniform with gold epaulettes, blue sash, and multiple gold cords and medals; the face has a neutral expression and light-colored eyes, and the background inside the oval shows cloudy sky tones in blue and gray. The surrounding frame is metallic gold with decorative raised corner motifs depicting stylized winged figures and a textured border, and visible colors include gold, blue, black, brown, red, white, gray, and muted flesh tones.
