Short black hair; white cravat, white vest, black double-breasted frock coat; wearing the Order of St. Anne, 2nd Class. Background grey, lined. Oval wooden frame with Baroque ornament, plastered and gilded. Inscribed on front: A. Kokular. On back of frame: Pal. Kokular Alek. / Miniature: 'portrait of a man' / Polish painting / Catalog No. 20 / Miniature / Poland. Dated 1840. Miniature, height 6.3 cm, width 5.1 cm., An oval portrait of a man set in an ornate carved frame, the frame painted gold with scrolled and rounded decorative shapes and small areas of wear showing a darker base; the portrait shows a man with dark hair and sideburns wearing a dark coat and a light-colored high collar with a patterned cravat, his face rendered with flesh tones and subtle shading against a neutral gray background; visible colors include gold, black, dark brown, gray, beige, pinkish flesh tones, and a touch of red in the neckwear.
