Louis VIII 1691–1768, Landgrave of Hesse-Darmstadt as a child. Painter: Arnold van Boonen 1669–1729; later author: Wilhelm Horst 1809–1852. Subject: a child visible to the hips, standing with hand on hip, turned 3/4 to the right, head almost straight; light blond hair, blue eyes. Costume: white ruffle at the neck, white lace at the sleeves, brown justaucorps embroidered with silver, sky-blue collar and cuffs, richly draped navy blue coat on the shoulders. Background: olive-brown. Frame: richly ornamented stucco, gilded wood. Medium/format: miniature; height 6.3 cm, width 5.2 cm. Date: circa 1850–1855.
