Natalia Sanguszkowa, née Potocka, as a girl 1807–1830, wife of Prince Roman Sanguszko deported to Siberia. Portrait by Johann Nepomuk Ender 1793–1854, 1825, Vienna. Miniature, 13.5 × 10.7 cm. Half-length, three-quarter left, head almost straight; blonde hair combed at the crown into a braided basket with angles on the sides. She wears a white Empire dress with a diamond neckline, ruffles, and a blue ribbon at the waist. Background: pinkish yellow at the top, bluish below. Frame: half-cylinder gilded wood on a plaster base, rectangle with rounded corners, white passe-partout. Inscription: Joh. Ender Vienn. Commentary: portrait miniature shows enlarged head and face relative to the body, exemplifying miniaturist proportions and Ender’s skill as a Viennese draughtsman and portraitist., A framed oval portrait of a young woman centered on a pale background, with a rounded rectangular frame that is gold with worn reddish-brown underlayer showing through and areas of crackled texture; the portrait shows a fair-skinned woman with light brown hair styled in braided loops and ringlets at the sides, blue eyes, a neutral expression, and a delicate lace-trimmed dress in off-white with a pale blue ribbon tied at the bodice; the oval area behind her transitions from a warm beige near the top to a soft grayish-blue toward the bottom.
