Barbara is dressed in a light blue dress with a red cloak falling from her shoulders. Her face is slightly rounded, her eyes bulging with large whites, and her lips small, vermilion. She wears a crown; her hair is adorned with flowers and a sash. Her head is surrounded by an ochre-colored halo. The saint is surrounded by palmette leaves, arranged in fleshy shapes. In the lower part is an irregular aedicula an intense red background—formerly with text. In the background, in the upper right corner, the outline of a building is visible. The blue sky is covered with light blue clouds. The composition and style show clear influences of iconography and Western European painting presentation, attributes, use of chiaroscuro. 18th century, possibly Ukraine or Russia. A long slender object is held across the figure’s torso by both hands. Ornate swirling gold-brown decorative motifs frame the lower portion of the panel and extend upward at the sides. The halo behind the head is gold with a reddish outline. Overall colors visible include blue-gray, gold, brown, red, dark green, pale gray, black, white, and touches of pink on the face.
