Portrait of Barbara Radziwill née Koly Wolska ?-1550, mother of Barbara Radziwill, unknown Polish painter. Oval portrait in a laurel wreath incorporated into the painting's rectangle. Within the oval: half-length, turned slightly to the left, a woman in a white bonnet with a flowing white veil, in a sleeveless black dress and a white shirt with a ruff. On the bodice is a huge pendant in a multi-leaf shape, decorated with stones and pearls, and four double strings of pearls. The face is elongated with prominent eyebrows and a long nose. The background of the portrait is brown and smooth. The portrait rests on the back of a black eagle with spread wings, with a princely mitre on its head and the Traby coat of arms on its chest. In its beak it holds the Junosza coat of arms, and in its talons a white ribbon with a Latin inscription. The background of the composition is gray-blue and smooth. At the bottom left, an inscription in white paint: N 100, partially washed out. 1733–1737; oil painting; height 108 cm, width 75 cm., A painted portrait of a person wearing a sheer white veil over a coif and a dark garment, with a pale face and neutral expression; the veil and coif show fine vertical lines and a slight translucency. The figure wears a dark high-necked undergarment with decorative beading and a ruffled white collar, and a prominent ornate pendant and chains at the chest. The hands are gloved dark and hold a small decorative object and a shield-like emblem with colored designs. The portrait is set within an oval wreath painted in warm brown and gold tones, against a dark gray to black background, and the whole image is framed by a simple gold frame with muted beige matting. Visible colors include white, black, gray, gold, brown, pale flesh tones, red, and muted blue.
