Portrait of Elzbieta Sapiezyna, née Radziwill 1583–1611, unknown Polish painter. Oval portrait in a laurel wreath incorporated into a rectangular picture surface. In the oval: a middle-aged woman, half-length, turned slightly to the left, wearing clothing reminiscent of the fashion of circa 1650: a fur cap over two bonnets one white, one black, a white underskirt covering her neck, a high-waisted brown-green dress decorated with a burgundy ribbon suspended from the shoulders with a bow at the hem, and a light yellow coat lined with dark brown fur with a large collar. She has an elongated face with pronounced arches in the eyebrows, almond-shaped eyes, and a straight nose. The oval background is light brown and smooth. The oval portrait rests on the back of a black eagle with spread wings, wearing a princely mitre, with the Traby coat of arms on its chest and the Lis Sapieha coat of arms in its beak; in its talons it holds a white ribbon with a black, three-line Latin inscription. On the bottom right there is an inscription in black paint: 50 hardly legible. Dated 1733–1737. Oil painting, 110 × 73 cm., A painted portrait of a person shown from the chest up inside an oval frame, wearing a dark brown fur hat and a white head covering that wraps around the face and neck, a dark brown cloak or coat with a deep collar, and a lighter colored garment underneath with a tied ribbon at the chest; the face has a neutral expression with pale skin and dark eyes. The oval frame is golden and sits against a dark brown background. Below the oval is a large black bird with outstretched wings holding a small ornamental object and a small shield with blue and red coloring. Visible colors include brown, dark brown, golden, white, black, red, blue, and pale skin tones.
