Portrait of Nicholas III Radziwill known as Amor Poloniae ca. 1470–1521, unknown Polish painter. Oval portrait with a laurel wreath incorporated into the rectangle of the painting. Within the oval: bust turned 3/4 to the left of a grey-haired man with short hair, beard and mustache, wearing a red coat with a wide ermine fur collar fastened with six rosette buttons. Background in the oval is pink-grey, plain. In the upper left corner in white paint: N 190. Oval portrait rests on the back of a black eagle with spread wings, a princely mitre on its head and the Traby coat of arms on its chest. In its beak the eagle holds an illegible coat of arms three vertical signs on a blue field; in its talons a white ribbon with a Latin inscription. Background of the composition is gray-blue, smooth; lower part where 19th-century repaintings remain brownish-reddish, smooth. Dated 1733–1737. Painting, 103 × 81.5 cm., A painted portrait of a man shown from the chest up within an oval frame, wearing a white fur-trimmed robe with dark feather-like markings and decorative buttons, a ruff collar, and a reddish garment visible beneath; he has a pale complexion, gray hair, a full gray beard and mustache, and a neutral facial expression while looking slightly to the viewer's left. The oval inner frame is brown with gold highlights set against a dark brown background, and a larger gold outer frame surrounds the whole image. At the lower part of the painting a dark-winged black bird motif partly covers a rectangular shield-like element with muted colors including black, brown, blue, and a touch of red, and two rolled parchment shapes in a golden-beige color appear below. Overall visible colors include brown, gold, white, black, gray, red, beige, and hints of blue.
