The clothing and surrounding brushwork use pale whites, light gray, and muted blue washes with quick curved charcoal or dark gray lines suggesting the shoulders and upper torso. There is shadowing behind the head in deep gray and black strokes, and the overall background remains the raw beige canvas with some darker brown marks along the edges.
