Subject: angels; Adoration of the Child; Joseph; Jesus Christ; John the Evangelist iconography; Christmas; biblical and religious scenes; Holy Family; Mary; Crucifixion. Italian painting, landscapes. The painting was originally the central wing of a triptych intended for private devotion traces of hinge hooks visible. Lower painting with a triangular finial. Mid-15th century. Painting dimensions: central panel height 45.7 cm, width 52.5 cm; finial height 25 cm, width 49 cm; total height 90.5 cm, total width 59.5 cm., A large vertical wooden board with a peaked top fills the image, showing a worn, rough surface in dark brown with lighter brown streaks and patches where the finish is rubbed; there are a few small holes scattered across the wood and a few areas of chipped or splintered edges. Near the top a metal triangular strap in dark gray is attached with a rope loop, and a small rectangular metal plate in a yellowish tone is visible beneath it. Along the right edge there is a rectangular paper patch in a tan color and a small worn paper fragment in off-white near the lower right. The bottom edge rests on a narrow wooden base in medium brown, and a painted portion of another framed artwork with darker greenish and brown tones is visible behind the right side. The background at the left shows a pale gray wall.
