Jacob Blessing the Sons of Joseph, Victors, Jan 1619–1676, painter; oil painting, 1650s; biblical scene depicting Jacob the Patriarch blessing Ephraim and Manasseh Joseph; height 136 cm, width 190 cm; subject inscriptions: Jacob, Ephraim, Manasseh., An interior scene shows an older man with a long gray beard reclining on a bed with a white pillow and a richly patterned red and gold coverlet, a dark fur-lined cloak over his shoulders and a brown cap on his head; he raises a hand while looking toward a younger man standing beside the bed who wears a large cream turban with a yellow plume and a deep burgundy robe trimmed with ornate metallic embroidery. Two children stand at the bedside facing the older man; one child has light blond hair and a brown garment with a tied sash, and the other has darker hair and a gold-striped dress with white sleeves. Behind and around the bed are heavy draperies in shades of dark green and olive, and the overall palette includes reds, golds, browns, burgundy, green, cream, white, and gray.
