In the foreground a group of people gather near a low stone wall and a wooden fence; two women kneel or bend over a basin, a man sits nearby with his legs extended, and another standing figure leans toward a child. A person is visible in the doorway at the top of the stairs and another stands on the steps. Earthy tones predominate, including deep browns, muted ochres, dark greens, faded reds, and touches of blue; there are small highlights of paler flesh tones and a reddish-brown pottery jug on the ground.
