Classicizing genre scene medallion by an unknown painter. Two women in a chamber interior with pinned-up draperies, elongated slender silhouettes in flowing white floor-length dresses à l'antique with raised waists, long curly hair over their shoulders; fragment of white wainscoting in the background. Entire work in ash-sepia tones. Chiseled metal frame, glazed on both sides, beige fabric visible on the reverse. Dated 1790–1900. Miniature, height 4.5 cm, width 3.1 cm., An oval pendant with a metallic loop and beaded stem at the top, the pendant framed by a double border of metallic beads and faceted metallic stones, surrounding a central oval painted scene under glass; the scene shows a group of two women in flowing dresses on an interior setting with drapery, one seated on a chair and the other standing and leaning forward, rendered in soft tones of beige, brown, cream, and muted green, with highlights of gold on the inner frame and metallic silver and gray on the outer frame.
