Portrait of Piotr Nalecz Malachowski ca. 1730–1799, unknown artist. Oil on canvas double canvas; later separated. Half-length portrait of a young, dark-haired man with shoulder-length hair swept back, sideburns and a small mustache, turned slightly to the right and wearing polished dark-gray armor decorated with ochre rivets and a golden palmette motif at the chest. Over the shoulders is a muted red coat lined with dark brown fur, fastened on the chest with a rectangular golden clasp set with a round green stone. A white zupan rises high at the neck and a narrow white shirt collar is fastened with a square clasp. The oval, rosy-complexioned face has a high forehead, broad black arched eyebrows, a straight tapering nose and a small pinkish-orange mouth; large dark eyes gaze outward with an absent expression. The background is brown and smoothly painted, slightly lightened around the head. The painting is executed flatly, without glazes. On the reverse, inscriptions dating from the beginning of the 19th century include a painted text identifying Piotr Nalecz Malachowski and giving biographical and archival notes. Dimensions: height 70.2 cm, width 58 cm., A framed painted portrait of a man shown from the chest upward against a dark background, with a black outer frame and a thin gold inner trim; the man has pale skin, dark hair, a mustache, and a neutral expression; he wears a white high collar beneath a dark cloak with a red lining and a decorative clasp at the throat with a dark jewel, and there is visible armor or ornate clothing with gold detailing beneath the cloak; overall colors include black, dark brown, red, white, gold, pale skin tones, and a dark neutral background.
