Portrait of Stefan Czarniecki 1599–1666, Field Hetman of the Crown, unknown painter. Shown in bust, right hand visible up to the elbow, turned 3/4 to the right; an older, slim man looking straight ahead. Face with high bald or shaved, wrinkled forehead, a single dark curl at the back of the head combed to the side, and a wavy gray beard. Dark wavy eyebrows, dark gray eyes, rimmed with a straight nose, and only a lower red lip visible under a short gray mustache. Dressed in shiny black armor with ochre rivets and fittings on the shoulder and breastplate; a narrow strip of red fabric protrudes from under the breastplate. A red delia with a large black fur collar is thrown over the shoulders, fastened under the chin with a long clasp of square cabochons. Background black and smooth. On the lower right, fragment of a white inscription: Stefan | C.... 18th century, Poland, painting., An oval framed painted portrait of an older man with a long gray beard and mustache, light skin, and a partly bald head, wearing dark clothing with a red sash across his shoulders and a metallic-looking chest piece; the frame is ornate and black with a thin gold inner rim, and the painting rests on a wooden easel against a pale bluish-gray background; visible colors include black, dark brown, gray, red, gold, beige, and pale blue.
