Fragment of a stove top, Jan III Sobieski King of Poland; 1629–1696, tiles, stoves. Triangular shield with the inscription PATRIAE DEFENSOR and panoplies. One of two panoplies flanking the model of the monument of Jan III Sobieski. 18th century, Poland. Tile; height 26.0 cm, width 16.5 cm., A weathered sculptural fragment resting on a neutral pale background shows a carved form with a curved shield-like piece and adjoining rounded shapes. The surface has areas of worn red pigment and patches of gray and brown stone texture, with traces of greenish discoloration in places. A few sculpted rounded elements peek from behind the shield, and the lower block-like base appears rough and beige with darker mottling. There is a small circular hole in the front face of the base and a small rectangular label attached near the lower edge. The overall palette includes red, beige, gray, brown, and hints of green.
