Snuffbox tin, Koenigliche Porzellan Manufaktur KPM; Berlin; 1763-1918. Snuffbox in the form of a rectangular box with a slightly arched lid, framed in gilded bronze, with a plant ornament around the outer edge of the lid and a lock, on hinges. Around the edge of the lid and the side walls of the tin there is a relief with rocaille and floral motifs. On the lid, the bottom of the base and each of the side walls are painted with colorful fruit and floral compositions including blackcurrant, fig, mirabelle plum or redcurrant and plums. On the inside of the lid is a painted composition of a bouquet of flowers in a cup-shaped brown vase on a stone tabletop with fruit and a sprig of raspberry flowers; on the edge of the tabletop a small bird sparrow? nibbling a leaf, above two butterflies flying. Ca. 1765–1770. Germany, Berlin. Porcelain haberdashery snuffbox. Height 3.2 cm; width 8.3 cm; depth 6 cm., A small rectangular box with an open lid sits against a gray background; the interior of the lid shows a painted still life of a floral arrangement in a vase with a group of various flowers and leaves in colors including pink, purple, yellow, orange, blue, green, and red, along with a few small insects and a bird near the floral scene, and a cluster of dark berries beside the vase; the box exterior is white with a decorative painted motif including berries and leaves in black, red, orange, green, and yellow, and the rim and hinge are metallic with a worn gold tone.
