Snuffbox tin, Koenigliche Porzellan Manufaktur, ca. 1765–1770, Berlin, Germany. Snuffbox in the form of a rectangular box with a slightly arched lid, framed in gilded bronze, with a plant ornament around the outer edge of the lid and a lock on hinges. Around the edge of the lid and the side walls is a relief with rocaille and floral motifs. On the lid, the base of the interior, and each side wall are colorful fruit and floral compositions including blackcurrant, fig, mirabelle plum or redcurrant, and plums. Inside the lid is a painted composition of a bouquet of flowers in a cup-shaped brown vase on a stone tabletop with fruit and a sprig of raspberry flowers; on the edge of the tabletop a small bird sparrow? nibbles a leaf, and two butterflies fly above. Porcelain haberdashery snuffbox. Height 3.2 cm; width 8.3 cm; depth 6 cm., A rectangular white porcelain box with a gilded metal rim sits against a gray background, the top surface decorated with a painted still-life of fruit and flowers including dark purple grapes, a greenish round fruit, a striped yellow and red gourd, small yellow and green oval fruits, and purple-centered flowers, along with green leaves and small red floral sprigs; the porcelain surface has embossed decorative borders and the metal rim shows a slightly aged patina.
