At the bottom, Paris, lost in thought. 19th/20th century. Staffordshire, Stoke-on-Trent, England. Vase, height 26.6 cm, width 19 cm., A dark vase with a flared rim and a single curved handle rising from the neck features raised pale relief decoration around its body showing a group of classical figures and natural elements; a seated nude figure draped with cloth sits on a low support on one side while a standing muscular male figure leans on a tree or rock on the opposite side, both rendered in light color against the dark surface, accompanied by pale sculpted trees, foliage, a column-like element, and a stylized mask or face motif near the neck; the overall palette includes dark charcoal or black for the vase and white or light gray for the raised decorative figures and details, set against a neutral gray background.
