Pelike-shaped vase in black with white rendered from a black background reliefs depicting: 1 Atia, mother of Emperor Augustus, Apollo and Neptune; 2 Hecuba wife of Priam with a torch in her hand, surrounded by Venus and Paris. At the bottom, Paris, lost in thought. 19th/20th century, Staffordshire, Stoke-on-Trent, England. Vase; height 26.6 cm, width 19 cm., A dark vase with a matte black surface and two curved handles shows a raised white relief scene wrapping around its body; the relief depicts a reclining nude figure draped with cloth under a stylized tree, flanked by two standing partially draped figures and surrounded by architectural fragments and carved details. The colors visible are black, white, gray, and a few subtle variations of darker and lighter gray tones.
