Vase with lid, Fayence-Manufaktur Muenden faience factory; 1732–1854 Hannoversch-Münden, architecture, Méyet, Leopold 1850–1912; birds, plant motifs. Baluster vase with a short, slightly flared neck, pear-shaped belly, on a conical foot, with a domed lid terminating in a conical handle. Around the lid, neck, and foot is a pattern of triple semicircles, fir-tree and oval plant motifs and borders. On the front, in a circular cartouche, an architectural view with two towers and three houses with gable roofs. The cartouche is topped with a plant palmette with a circular motif at the bottom and richly ornamented on both sides with a scale mosaic, Chinese latticework, double volutes, and two birds at the top. Branches with flowers–fruits or oak leaves radiate horizontally from the cartouche. On the back are small stars and a bipartite shoot motif. 3rd quarter of the 18th century, Germany; Hannoversch-Münden. Vessel; height 41.8 cm, width 21.0 cm., A ceramic jar and its lid sit against a plain gray background, both painted in white with blue decorative motifs. The jar has a bulbous body tapering to a narrower foot and a short neck, decorated with a central circular scene surrounded by floral and foliate patterns, scalloped and leafy bands, and repeating ornamental borders in blue on the white surface. The lid, placed nearby, is domed with a conical finial striped in blue and white and echoes the jar’s blue floral and banded decorations. The overall visible colors are white, blue, and gray.
