Vase with lid, Fayence-Manufaktur Muenden faience factory; 1732–1854, Hannoversch Münden; maker: Méyet, Leopold 1850–1912. Baluster vase with a short, slightly flared neck, pear-shaped belly, on a conical foot, with a domed lid terminating in a conical handle. Around the lid, neck, and foot is a pattern of triple semicircles, fir-tree and oval plant motifs and borders. On the front, in a circular cartouche, an architectural view with two towers and three houses with gable roofs; the cartouche is topped with a plant palmette with a circular motif at the bottom and richly ornamented on both sides with a scale mosaic, Chinese latticework, double volutes, and two birds at the top. Branches with flower-fruits or oak leaves radiate horizontally from the cartouche. On the back are small stars and a bipartite shoot motif. Birds and plant motifs. 3rd quarter of the 18th century, Germany; Hannoversch Münden. Vessel. Height 41.8 cm; width 21.0 cm., A lidded ceramic jar with a rounded body and a finialed lid, painted in blue on a white background; the jar features floral and foliate motifs and decorative bands, with a repeated leaf-like pattern on the neck and base, star-like dots scattered on the body, and a stylized plant motif on the lower section; the lid has concentric decorative bands and a striped finial; the predominant colors visible are white and blue, with a neutral gray background.
