Winter — Allegory. Koenigliche Porzellain Fabrique, Meissen 1710–1763. Seasons allegory: Winter. Figurine in black, mid-18th century, Meissen, Saxony. On a flat, quadrangular pedestal stands an old naked, barefoot bearded man in contrapposto, covered with a fur-lined cloak, a horn thrown over his head and flowing down his back, held by its other end in his left hand at hip level. He leans slightly and warms his right hand over a cauldron with a flame at his feet. Height 11.5 cm., A small glazed ceramic figure standing on a rectangular base with a draped cloak in shades of deep red, burgundy, and pink that transitions into darker brownish tones, revealed partially over a pale creamy white arm and hand extending outward; the cloak has glossy highlights and subtle darker speckling, and the base and exposed lower parts show off-white and light beige with a small area of muted blue; near the figure’s feet there is a rounded vessel in brown and beige with pale cream accents.
