Armchair, provenance, Neo-Baroque, 2nd half of the 19th century, Western Europe. Baroque-style armchair with carved frame and woven rattan seat and back. Front cabriole legs terminate in claws clasping balls, decorated at the top with acanthus leaves; rear legs shaped like balusters terminating with ankles. Legs joined by an H stretcher with turned joints and side ankles. Trapezoidal seat with woven rattan and narrow frames with wavy cutouts at the bottom. High nearly rectangular backrest, S-shaped at the back, side rails curved inward at the top and topped with volutes. Center backrest divided by a narrow central board into two rattan-woven fields. Back crest features a two-field coat of arms supported by two eagles beneath a visor with labrets and a hat with wide brim and two cords with tassels. S-shaped armrests end in volutes at the front and rest on straight turned brackets set at an angle. Frame joints pegged. Furniture, seating piece; H 120 cm, W 70 cm, D 54 cm., A carved wooden chair back featuring an ornate crest with a central shield flanked by two stylized birds and flowing scrollwork, a woven cane panel below on each side, and a smooth vertical wooden divider in the center; visible colors include warm brown tones of the wood and lighter beige from the woven cane set against a pale gray background.
