Plate, De Porceleyne Claeuw faience manufacturer; 1658–1840 manufacturer, animals, lions, plant decorations, chinoiserie. Semi-deep plate, quite thick-walled with a collar thinner at the edge. On a light blue background, decoration in dark cobalt. At the bottom, between two arbor posts flanked by schematically outlined bushes, a standing lion with a human face. The collar features six trapezoidal segments separated by narrow vertical fields with floral decoration, three of which depict a seated male figure, the other three arranged alternately with a schematic, symmetrical volute-floral composition. The lion at the bottom likely represents the Batavian Lion, symbolizing the House of Orange. 18th century, Netherlands, Delft; vessel; height 3.0 cm, width 23.2 cm., A round ceramic plate with a white base and blue painted decoration, showing a central scene of a stylized animal with a mane standing beneath an architectural element with columns, surrounded by curved brushstrokes and decorative plant-like motifs; the rim features alternating panels of abstract floral scrolls, dot clusters, and small human-like figures, all painted in deep blue on the white surface, with a few small chips along the dark blue edge.
