Chalice, glass, 1736–1744. Naliboki, Belarus Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Height 17.2 cm; width 7.7 cm. Round foot, slightly raised, trace of adhesive. Baluster stem, solid, faceted, separated from the foot by two plates with a ring, one of them with a flower; separated from the bowl by two plates of different diameter and a knob. Conical bowl, twice puffed out at the base, cut into rows of lenses. Engraved decoration all over the bowl, biaxial: seated Saint Hieronim Saint Jerome holding a skull, with a lion at his feet, in a room with bookcases, a table at the side; on the other side an inscription: THE LORD'S GIFT OF HIS LIFE / FROM WHICH HE MAKES / THE PRINCE OF SACRIFICES / MAY THE HOUR Strike for so many prosperous years / HOW MANY DROPS IN THE GOBLET / WHAT WINE IS IN THE WINE. Foot with a wide strip bearing a geometric pattern. Dedications; religious scenes; Hieronim Florian 1715–1760; Radziwill family; skull anatomist., A tall, clear glass goblet with an intricately carved bowl showing a bearded male figure and decorative motifs sits against a dark background; the bowl narrows toward a faceted stem that includes a rounded knop and geometric facets, leading to a broad, flat foot; visible colors in the image are shades of gray, black, and white.
