Double-sided gingerbread mould. Obverse: female figure in a long, patterned, richly decorated dress, wearing a hat decorated with an egretta. Reverse: male figure wearing a fur hat and a fur-lined coat over an embroidered shirt, holding a long pipe. Plant decoration at the bottom of both figures. Woodcarving, folk-style decorations; gingerbread moulds; decorative/applied art; historical costumes. 18th–19th century, Province of Silesia 1742–1918. Rectangular form; height 19 cm, width 9 cm, depth 3.3 cm., A rectangular wooden block carved in relief with the figure of a standing person wearing a long dress and a headpiece; the wood shows a warm brown tone with lighter and darker variations and areas of wear, and the background around the carving is a similar brown; the carved figure has textured details on the sleeves and skirt, a belt with a tied bow, and floral-like shapes held near the waist, with carved folds at the hem and a small raised base beneath the feet; the overall scene is set against a plain neutral gray backdrop.
