Wooden pear-shaped peg tankard, carved, round, richly decorated with bas-reliefs depicting Passion and Gospel scenes, with a Resurrection of Christ scene on the lid; lid rim and handle decorated with plant motifs and masks and studded with ivory pins; center of lid has a row of vertically driven metal pegs placed at regular intervals top two missing. Inscribed; human figures and figurative motifs., noted. Decorative art; vessel. 17th century, Scandinavia. Height 23.5 cm, width 20.5 cm., A carved wooden lidded vessel with a handle is shown against a plain gray background; the vessel is dark brown with a slightly glossy finish and has a richly detailed relief band around its body depicting many small human figures and scenes, and the lid is adorned with carved decorative motifs and a ring of small light-colored round inlays. The handle curves outward and features ornate scrollwork with a carved flourish at its end and a couple of small pale inlays near its base; the base of the vessel has textured carving and the overall piece shows a dense pattern of carved elements in brown with touches of light cream from the inlays.
