Fragment of lace, lace of, plant ornaments, slightly serrated lower edge with shell motifs and sprouting twigs, above it projections of smaller twigs. 2nd half of the 19th century, Europe. Lace, width 17 cm, length 86 cm., A long horizontal piece of lace laid flat against a solid background, showing a scalloped upper edge with an ornate repeating floral motif and a lower straight edge with small fragments and a few loose threads; the lace fabric is a delicate net with an all-over pattern of small clustered berry-like shapes and paired leaf motifs scattered across the field, while the top border features larger rounded floral designs with radiating internal stitching and trailing leaf sprays; visible colors include cream in the lace and a mid-tone gray for the background.
