Chasuble, silk liturgical vestment, 18th century, France. Chasuble made of patterned silk fabrics: sides of stripe two-tone damask with floral motifs in blue; columns of two types of fabric — front column of brown, gray, and white silk with a pattern of small floral sprigs; back column of silk in the same colors with a fine pattern of leaves arranged in an alternating rhythm sometimes left, sometimes right. Edges and columns trimmed with gold and silver lace. Subject motifs: flowers, leaves, plant ornaments; function: church parament / liturgical vestment. Dimensions: length 98 cm; width 69 cm back. Fabric report heights and widths: sides — height of the repeat 31 cm; front column — height of the repeat 5.5 cm, width of the repeat 4.5 cm; back column — height of the repeat 13.5 cm., A garment laid flat with a rounded top and hem, showing a central panel and tapered side panels; the fabric appears silk-like with a textured, slightly wrinkled surface. The main colors visible are gold, pale green, and muted bluish-green, with metallic gold trim outlining the central and side panels. The central panel has a patterned weave with a subtle floral or wave-like motif, while the side panels display a softer, more marbled or clouded texture. The trim is ornate with braided and scalloped edging in metallic tones. The background is a neutral pale gray, and the garment shows signs of wear such as creases and slight discoloration in places.
