Chasuble, gift; silk liturgical vestment, 18th century, France. Church paraments with floral and leaf plant ornaments. Made of patterned silk fabrics: sides are striped two-tone damask with blue floral motifs; composed of columns of two types of fabric. Front column: brown, gray, and white silk with a pattern of small floral sprigs, report height 5.5 cm, report width 4.5 cm. Back column: silk of the same colors with a fine pattern of leaves arranged in an alternating rhythm sometimes left, sometimes right, report height 13.5 cm. Edges and columns trimmed with gold and silver lace. Function: liturgical vestment. Dimensions: length 98 cm; width 69 cm back. Some panel widths and report widths unspecified., A long sleeveless garment laid flat with a central vertical panel flanked by two lighter side panels, all made of a patterned woven fabric; the central panel is a darker muted gold with floral motifs and the side panels are a pale greenish-gold with similar floral patterns, the whole piece edged with a decorative trim in a metallic gold tone, and the background is a pale neutral surface.
