Chasuble, 18th century, Poland. Cream silk grosgrain with cotton lining and thick canvas backing; lined with linen canvas. Embroidery in silk thread and metal-braid thread using shaded chain stitch; edges trimmed with bobbin lace and gold lace. Front center: embroidered lamb lying on a book from which seven seals emerge, surrounded by clouds; delicate floral tendril around the edges; basket of flowers at bottom edge with a long floral tendril. Back: John the Baptist baptizing Christ, above them a dove in a radial rim; John holds a cross bearing a ribbon inscribed ECCE AGNUS DEI. Pastel colors. Function: liturgical vestment. Dimensions: length 113 cm, width 69 cm back., A vertical, cream-colored textile panel with a pointed top and scalloped gold trim along the edges, featuring an embroidered central scene of two male figures by a small body of water with green grassy tufts and brown cattails; one figure stands on a green patch holding a long staff and is draped in a brown garment, while the other kneels partly in the water with a pale cloth around the waist; above them is a circular sunburst motif in gray with a white bird descending and a gray banner near the staff; the panel is bordered by floral embroidery with a few blue, pink, and purple flowers, green leaves and stems, and a woven gold basket with pink and yellow flowers at the bottom, all set against the cream silk background.
