Chasuble, 17th century, Poland. Liturgical vestment. The sides are made of semi-silk navy blue damask 19th-century fabric with a motif of twisting floral sprigs. Columns have a tendril motif with schematic tulips and roses, embroidered with metal thread: silver in the background, gold in the ornamental sections. Edges and internal divisions trimmed with metal galloon. Cotton lining. Embroidery: gold metal thread on thick linen canvas backing. Background, leaves, and buds executed in flat laid embroidery; flower cups and stems in raised laid embroidery on a backing of linen threads. Gold threads consist of gold-colored metal plate ornamental parts and silver-colored metal plate background woven on a linen base; threads attached with linen yarn. Dimensions: length 114 cm, width 66 cm back., A vestment-like textile with a central vertical panel of metallic gold fabric featuring textured circular floral motifs bordered by narrower gold trim, flanked on both sides by deep blue panels patterned with subtle floral damask; the piece has gold edging around its perimeter and a V-shaped neckline at the top, with visible creases and slight fraying along some gold edges.
