Lace fragment, repossession provenance; needle lace, Alençon lace, 18th century, France. The edge features a broad floral ornament composed of a repeated, elaborate bouquet of flowers; the edge is serrated following the forms of the flower calyxes, repeated in threes. Above, against the mesh background, very small heart-shaped leaves are depicted. Lace; width 8 cm, length 51 cm., A horizontal strip of delicate lace in off-white is laid against a smooth gray background; the lace features a scalloped top edge with an ornate floral and leafy embroidery pattern and a lower edge finished with a fine stitched border, while the central area of the lace is a fine net dotted with a few small raised embroidered buds.
