Lace fragment, bobbin lace, two pieces sewn together across their width: one with straight edges, the other with strongly semicircularly serrated edges. Both feature identical rosette motifs; in the serrated piece the rosettes are framed at the bottom by a fan-shaped motif. 17th century, Flanders. Lace; width 21.5 cm, length 71 cm., A horizontal strip of delicate lace displayed against a gray background, showing a repeating scalloped edge at the top and a straight finished edge at the bottom, with an intricate openwork pattern of circular motifs and interlaced loops; the lace appears in a light off-white or cream color contrasted with the medium gray behind it, and the textile shows fine thread work, small holes, and symmetrical decorative elements throughout.
