Church napkin. Napkin made of linen with a fairly dense weave. In the middle an inscription embroidered with gold thread on a silk ribbon: Whoever eats my body / and drinks my blood has / eternal life And / I will raise / the last / day / in John in the year 6 / in 54. Around it is an appliquéd narrow grosgrain ribbon in cream and beige forming a circle with three-pronged rays 10, and within them small blue and gold embroidered rays. An identical grosgrain ribbon in three tones of blue is sewn around the edges of the napkin. The ribbons, approximately 8 mm wide, date from the second half of the 18th century, but the inscription was created earlier, as the sewn-on ribbon partially obscures its lower letters. Fabric density: 30 warp and weft threads per cm. 18th century, Poland. Height 76 cm, width 80 cm., A square textile laid flat with visible creases and a stitched border, showing a light beige or off-white background with a pale green decorative inner border and a thin darker edge; in the center a stylized sunburst motif stitched in pale yellow with a circular center and radiating pointed rays, and a few short green stitched accents between some rays.
