Lace fragment — shuttlecock; lace; clothing accessory; fashion. Lower edge: semicircular serrations bordered with fine serrations with geometric ornament. From the semicircular serrations upwards: a floral ornament repeating with a twig motif in triangular divisions; above this, a small twig in a regular projection. Mid-19th century, France. Material: lace. Width 42 cm, length 430 cm., A horizontal strip of delicate fabric with ornate embroidery lies against a flat background. The fabric is semi-transparent with a scalloped lower edge featuring dense floral and leafy embroidered motifs that form triangular arches along the border. Above the border, the textile has a repeating pattern of small floral sprigs scattered evenly across the field. The top edge is irregular and slightly frayed with several small holes visible throughout the upper portion of the fabric. There are scattered brownish stains on the right side and a few smaller discolorations elsewhere. The visible colors include off-white embroidery, a pale beige or cream fabric tone, brown stains, and a muted grayish-blue background.
