Background fond de gaze. 2nd half of the 19th century, Brussels; lace, width 8.5 cm, length 127 cm, A horizontal strip of delicate lace in off-white spans the image against a gray background, featuring an intricate repeating pattern of floral motifs and ornate scrollwork; a few large scalloped floral rosettes sit along the lower edge, connected by ornate fan-shaped and curved designs with openwork details, while a group of smaller embroidered flowers and leafy sprigs fill the central netted ground above them; the top edge shows a narrow band of more geometric, ladder-like lacework; overall colors visible are off-white lace and a medium gray background.
